Nature's Re-Creations is a small Utah company run by Ben Barto, a self-taught sculptor with a talent for capturing wildlife. Part of the charm of this line is that Ben's medium is rather unique. Elk shed their antlers in winter at the end of the breeding season. In spring, Indians on the Wind River Reservation collect the fallen antlers and sell them to Ben. The antlers are ground into a fine calcium powder and mixed with resin. Ben casts this mixture into airily light (but durable) pins, earrings, bolos and buckles. Each piece is finished by hand painting in exquisite detail.
